Petrologic and Stratigraphic Analysis of Reservoir Rocks
for the Petroleum Industry

Petrographic Analysis and Photomicrography of Rocks and Minerals
for the Energy and Environmental Industries

Services of PetroRes GeoScience
  • Petrographic light microscopy and digital photomicrography of petroleum reservoir rocks.
  • Petrologic description and analysis of thin sections, rotary sidewall samples, well cuttings, and slabbed cores of reservoir rocks, both carbonates and siliciclastics.
  • Determination of sedimentary facies and depositional environments of both carbonate and siliciclastic reservoir rocks.
  • Identification and stratigraphic analysis of specific microfossils in sedimentary rocks of all ages.
  • Petroleum reservoir characterization and stratigraphic analysis of sedimentary sequences.
  • Recognition and identification of authigenic clays potentially harmful for petroleum production.
  • Geological description and stratigraphic analysis of slabbed cores.
  • Petrographic description and digital light photomicroscopy of any rock (sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic, fossiliferous, etc.)  for the energy and environmental industries or forensic analysis.

Additional Services Available

  • Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of reservoir rock samples.
  • X-ray diffraction analysis of reservoir rock samples.
  • Preparation of rock thin sections for petrographic analysis.

Steven Schafersman, Ph.D., of PetroRes GeoScience, has over 20 years experience in performing these services for reservoir rocks of all ages from the world's petroleum basins. He has examined rocks in thin section from almost 100 sedimentary rock formations and is proficient with plutonic and volcanic igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks as well as carbonate and clastic sedimentary rocks. His academic teaching record is available.

Please inquire for prices and scheduling. Our prices are quite reasonable.
